The Bank plays an active role in addressing climate change by investing in renewable energy initiatives in Africa.

In June 2021, the DBSA and the TCTA concluded two loan facility agreements spanning 20 years for implementing Phase II of the Lesotho Highlands Water Project (LHWP), which forms part of South Africa’s Vaal River System (VRS).

The Redstone Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) plant is the largest renewable energy investment in South Africa to date and is on course to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2023.
