DBSA Participates in Investment Initiatives at Toronto Global Forum

14 October 2024 - The Development Bank of Southern Africa (DBSA) is set to play a pivotal role at the Toronto Global Forum, scheduled for 16-18 October 2024. CEO Boitumelo Mosako will lead the delegation that includes some of her group executives. This forum serves as a vital platform for aligning North American capital with Africa's pressing infrastructure and energy needs, effectively showcasing the continent's vast investment potential and thus building Africa’s prosperity. The emphasis will be on collaborative investment initiatives that aim to drive economic progress, complementing the Minister of Energy's announcement regarding South Africa's blended finance energy plan, which encompasses opening up the financing of solar, wind, hydrogen and nuclear to the global market.

The DBSA is excited about engaging in constructive discussions focused on investment in infrastructure development. As a leading lender in renewable energy, the Bank is uniquely positioned to spearhead an equitable energy transition, promote regional integration, and enhance ICT infrastructure. It is committed to supporting a diverse range of technologies, funding, and investments to meet the surging global demand for clean and reliable energy. Furthermore, the Bank looks forward to collaborating closely with North American financiers, institutional investors, and global Development Finance Institutions on initiatives that not only advance infrastructure development but also address sustainable development, climate change, biodiversity, and conservation challenges.

The Toronto Global Forum offers a unique opportunity to establish connections and explore investment possibilities that lead to collaboration between African and North American partners. This collaboration is anticipated to unlock significant investment prospects, with estimates indicating that North America could substantially enhance Africa's renewable energy initiatives, potentially amounting to billions of dollars.
