Martie Janse van Rensburg is the Independent Non-Executive Director and Interim Chairperson at the Development Bank of Southern Africa. Her expertise lies in a diverse range of areas, including Strategic Business Planning, Internal Audit, Management, Corporate Governance, and Finance. With a focus on executive development in Strategy and Organisational Development from Stanford University Business School, she brings this robust skill set to her role. Her professional background includes a tenure as the Chief Executive Officer for Trans - Caledon Tunnel Authority, where she demonstrated proficiency in strategic business planning, internal audit, corporate governance, and development finance, specifically in project finance and infrastructure planning and delivery. In addition to her role at the DBSA, Martie has a history of serving in various board capacities in both private and public institutions. Her contributions extend beyond her executive roles, showcasing her commitment to governance and leadership within diverse organisational contexts. Janse van Rensburg's strategic acumen and wealth of experience continue to play a crucial role in guiding the DBSA towards its objectives and fostering sustainable development in Southern Africa.

Her career is entrenched in the operations of the DBSA, Boitumelo brings value to the Bank with her experience in both the private and public sectors, including financial services, venture capital, healthcare, and professional services. Boitumelo has slotted seamlessly into her role of driving the strategy and operations of the institution, known as a trailblazer who ensured, insisted, and drove governance within the DBSA while in the role of CFO.

Boitumelo Mosako, made history by becoming the DBSA’s first woman CEO. Boitumelo assumed office in April 2023, ten years after first joining the DBSA’s finance division.

Boitumelo values inclusion, not talking only about including women and other marginalised groups but evolving the Bank into spaces where everyone feels included and therefore can participate comfortably to their fullest abilities. Fostering a culture of trust, transparency, continuous learning, and empowering teams to thrive in a rapidly changing world.

Boitumelo’s expertise spans auditing, financial management, and strategy, acquired through roles at reputable organisations. Prior to joining the DBSA, she served as the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) at the South African Bureau of Standards (SABS), where she played a crucial role in financial governance and strategy development. Previously, she held the position of General Manager of Finance at the DBSA, demonstrating her familiarity with the organisation's operations and financial landscape. Her career also includes stints at Triumph Venture Capital, Citigroup, and EY, where she honed her skills in financial analysis, risk management, and regulatory compliance.

A Chartered Accountant (SA) with over 12 years of experience in financial services, Boitumelo holds an Advanced Management Programme Certificate from Harvard Business School, a BBBEE Management Development Programme Certificate from UNISA, a Higher Diploma in Auditing, a Post Graduate Diploma in Accounting and a BCom Accounting Degree from the University of Cape Town.

Zodwa-Mbele

Zodwa’s extensive experience in financial leadership roles, coupled with her qualifications and executive education, positions her as a highly competent professional capable of driving financial strategies and operational excellence within the DBSA.

With a solid foundation in finance and executive education, Zodwa Mbele has previously held key positions at the Development Bank of Southern Africa, including General Manager of Finance, Acting CFO, and Group Executive: Transacting.

Zodwa Mbele is a Chartered Accountant (CA(SA)) with additional certification in International Treasury Management (UK), showcasing her expertise in financial management and treasury operations. Her commitment to continuous learning is evident through her attendance at prestigious programmes such as the Harvard Business School's Advanced Management Programme, the Stellenbosch Business School's Executive Development Programme, and the Wits Business School's Management Advanced Programme.

Kenneth’s career reflects a commitment to driving strategic initiatives and fostering partnerships in the public and private sectors. His wealth of experience contributes to the DBSA's mission of promoting sustainable development in Southern Africa. Kenneth's expertise spans executive positions in business development and client coverage. Before his role at DBSA, Kenneth held the position of Executive for Business Development at Trade Capital Investments (TCI) for four years.

He has an extensive background in the financial sector, having also served in leadership roles at Standard Bank South Africa, including Head of Public Sector Client Coverage for one year and six months. Before his tenure at Standard Bank, Kenneth dedicated a decade to the National Treasury of South Africa, where he served as Chief Procurement Officer (CPO) for four years and Head of Intergovernmental Relations for six years. In these roles, he oversaw provincial and local government finances.

Kenneth holds a Master of Science (Public Policy) from the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign, a Bachelor of Arts Honours (Economics), from the University of the Western Cape, and a Bachelor of Arts, from the University of the Western Cape.

Barry Hore

Barry Hore brings invaluable insights and strategic direction to the DBSA, where his expertise can facilitate innovation and digital transformations aligned with the Bank's objectives of fostering economic development and financial inclusion in the region.

Hore’s expertise encompasses a profound understanding of banking information technology & operations across corporate and retail sectors including a comprehensive knowledge of ICT infrastructure, cybersecurity, banking regulation and process engineering. His experience extends beyond ICT and banking. He is a strategy, operations, and change management expert with the ability to transform ideas into delivery. Noteworthy achievements include overseeing the modernization and digitisation of SARS and playing a leading role in establishing Discovery Bank as a real-time, ‘mobile-first, digital native’ bank from an idea to its successful launch. With such a robust background, Hore brings invaluable insights and strategic direction to the DBSA, where his expertise can facilitate technological advancements and digital transformations aligned with the Bank's objectives of fostering economic development and financial inclusion in the region. 

He holds a BCom from the University of Natal as well a certificate from Harvard University's Advanced Management Programme.

Dineo brings a wealth of financial expertise to the Development Bank of Southern Africa with a strong track record in different financial institutions, she possesses invaluable insights into capital and financial markets, which are critical for the DBSA's investment and project financing activities. As the co-founder and Managing Partner of Maia Capital Partners Fund Management & Asset Management, she has demonstrated her proficiency in development finance, capital markets, and asset management.

Dinao’s skills include CFA, investment banking, capital and financial market, her extensive board experience in organisations such as the KZN Growth Fund, Development Equity Fund, Futuregrowth, Vumela Fund, and Edge Growth underlines her strategic acumen and ability to provide guidance on investment decisions and risk management. Overall, her combination of academic credentials, professional experience, and board leadership positions make her a highly qualified candidate to contribute to the DBSA's financial strategies and initiatives aimed at fostering economic development in Southern Africa.

Petrus Matji

Petrus Matji possesses extensive expertise in water and wastewater, roads, ports and energy infrastructure with experience in project finance, including fundraising for projects, and a track record of working on projects across Africa. Matji is well-versed in the financial and technical aspects of infrastructure planning, development and management, making him a valuable asset to the Development Bank of Southern Africa in its efforts to drive infrastructure development in the region.

Previously serving as the CEO of Roads Agency Limpopo SOC Limited (RAL), he played a key role in overseeing road infrastructure planning, development, management, and maintenance projects in the Limpopo Province. His leadership experience and technical knowledge position him to contribute significantly to the DBSA's mission of promoting sustainable infrastructure development and economic growth in Southern Africa.

Matji holds an MSc in Engineering Sciences (Civil Engineering) from the University of Stellenbosch and an MBL from the University of South Africa. He is a professional construction project manager (Pr. CPM) and a professional hydrologist/water resources expert. He published more than 10 journal articles and conference papers, combined, in public-private partnerships (‘’PPPs’’), infrastructure financing/funding. Further, he reviewed a number of infrastructure-related journal articles published by the International Journal of Construction Management.

Disebo-Moephuli

Disebo is well-equipped to contribute to strategic decision-making and financial initiatives within the Development Bank of Southern Africa, leveraging her experience to drive impactful outcomes and foster sustainable development in the region. Her extensive career encompasses: Asset & Liability management (ALM), Treasury management, Domestic & International Debt Capital Markets (DCM), Development Financial Institution Funding, Bank funding, and Export Credit Agency supported funding. With over 25 years of experience in leadership roles across different industries, including State-owned enterprises, financial services, freight and logistics transport, she brings a wealth of expertise to the table. Her skills include general management, banking, risk, and treasury management.

She holds a certificate from INSEAD's Executive Leadership Programme, an MBA from Dalhousie University, a BA in Economics from the University of Lesotho, and other certificates in property investment and project management.

Muthige's career is distinguished by his exceptional blend of leadership experience in both operations and human resources, spanning South Africa and international markets. In addition to his corporate roles, he contributes to the nonprofit sector as a Non-Executive Director of Help2Read, demonstrating his commitment to social impact and community development.

Muthige holds a BA Hons from the University of KwaZulu-Natal, along with professional certifications including a PMD from Damelin, a Strategic HR Management Programme from Harvard Business School, and a certificate in Advanced Management Programme from the Wharton Business School.

With expertise across Investment and Corporate Banking, ESG Investments, and Global Climate Change, she brings a wealth of knowledge to the Bank. Her experience is further bolstered by her role as a director of Rabia Transitions (NFP), a business she established in 2013, indicating her entrepreneurial spirit and commitment to sustainable development.

Dr Chantal Naidoo holds a PhD from the University of Sussex (explored the role of Financial Services in supporting Sustainability - SA’s IPP), MA in Development Finance from the Stellenbosch University, a certificate in Programme: Sustainable Leadership from the University of Cambridge and Int’l EDP, from BankSeta, PGDip: Tax Law from the University of Witwatersrand and BCom from the University of Cape Town.

Joel Netshitenzhe

Joel’s multifaceted background, combined with his leadership abilities, positions him as an asset in driving strategic initiatives and fostering effective governance within organisations, including the Development Bank of Southern Africa.

Renowned for his political acumen and executive experience, he currently serves as the executive director of the Mapungubwe Institute for Strategic Reflection (MISTRA) and as a member of the Presidential State-Owned Enterprises Council (PSEC) and the Board of Life Healthcare Group. He previously served on the Boards of NEDBANK Group and the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR).

Aside from his experience in policy formulation, his strengths include research, strategic planning and communication. Netshitenzhe holds an MSc in Financial Economics and a PGDip in Economic Principles from the University of London (SOAS). Additionally, he pursued studies in medicine at the then-University of Natal, abandoned when he left for exile during the apartheid era.

Whether in formulating and implementing policies, managing resources, or fostering collaboration across stakeholders, her expertise is invaluable in the support of the Bank's initiatives and contributes to its success in driving positive change in Southern Africa.

She holds an MBA from the University of Charles Sturt, Australia, an Honours (Economics) from the University of South Africa and a BCom from the University of Transkei.

Bongani brings a wealth of financial leadership and strategic expertise to the Development Bank of Southern Africa where his combination of financial acumen, executive leadership, and investment experience make him an asset to the Bank, where he can contribute his insights to shape financial strategies and investment decisions that align with the Bank's mandate of fostering sustainable development in Southern Africa.

He has extensive experience as a finance executive, and leading companies including roles as Joint - Chief Executive Officer and Joint - President at Sasol Ltd, Chief Financial Officer, Executive Director at Shell Southern Africa, Eskom Limited, Anglo-American Platinum, and Sasol Limited. He possesses a deep understanding of financial management and corporate strategy. As the founder of BN Africa Capital (Pty) Ltd, focusing on investments in his areas of expertise in Africa, he demonstrated a commitment to driving economic growth and development on the continent.

A qualified Chartered Accountant who holds a Bachelor of Accountancy (Honors) and a  Master’s degree in Business Administration with Merit from the Universities of Manchester and Wales, Bangor.

Edgar Pieterse

With a distinguished career spanning academia, policy development, and non-profit leadership, Prof. Pieterse is a highly accomplished professional.

In his role as Director of the African Centre for Cities, he has spearheaded a prominent research platform dedicated to sustainable human settlements across Africa, establishing himself as a leading authority in the field.

Professor Edgar Pieterse holds a PhD from the London School of Economics & Political Science,  MA: in Politics of Alternative Development Strategies, Institute of Social Studies, The Hague, 1995 and a BA: in Social Science from the University of the Western Cape.
